York

Definitely my favourite city in the UK.

It’s funny how a place can change - not because the bricks and mortar have shifted, but because we have.

This was my 2nd visit to York. The first one, Alex was just 2 months old. We were in the middle of a trip to the Yorkshire Dales and York was just a quick 2-3 hour stop. Honestly? It was a rush. Alex had a lot of needs back then and we were just trying to keep up.

This time, everything was different.

More than 4 years later, we spent 4 days here and loved every second. We embraced slow traveling and it was much better. We truly understood the city.

We walked the streets and the city walls - letting Alex lead the way. We explored the child-friendly activities like Dig or Wonderlab, places where you can just watch their curiosity catch fire.

We were surprised that the city had our favourite restaurant, Wagamama, so we had lunch there. Naturally, we also tried the chocolate and other sweet treats.

Florence was gifted a new pair of earrings. Alex picked them, I paid :)

We also loved the Museum Gardens. It’s impressive how much history is there. Those walls, the stones, everything.

After a few days visiting the main points of interest, the “tourist” feeling faded away and I felt like a local - having a haircut or joining a family swim session at the leisure centre with Alex.

York is definitely my favourite city in the UK.
